The Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB), is pleased to announce the availability of following scholarships (fully funded) offered by the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan for the Academic Year 2023-2024. Scholarship is supported through collaborative research between KGUMSB, MoH and RCDC on “Observation Study on CoVID-19 Vaccine Immunogenicity and Reactogenicity” research grant project in Bhutan with support from the Moderna Inc. USA.

  1. PhD in Bioinformatics/Vaccinology
    Duration: 3.5 – 4 years Program
    Qualification: MD in laboratory Medicine in the field of Microbiology/Biochemistry or Master’s degree in Medical Technology/Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biomedical Sciences/Genomic science with evidence of previous research experience through conduct of thesis or at least one publication in a reputed National or International journal.
  2. MSC/MPH Epidemiology and Biostatistics
    Duration: 1.5 – 2 years Program
    Qualification: MBBS OR Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Allied Sciences/Biomedical Sciences, Bachelor degree of Public Health
  3. MSC/MPH in Vaccinology/Bioinformatics
    Duration: 1.5 – 2 years Program
    Qualification: MBBS or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Allied Sciences/Biomedical Sciences, Bachelor degree of Public Health

    1. Interested applicants from KGUMSB, RCDC, NMS or MoH may kindly submit the following documents to

    1.1 Application for the scholarship (Addressed to the President of KGUMSB)
    1.2 Curriculum Vitae
    1.3 Academic Transcripts and certificates (bachelor and master’s degree levels)
    1.4 Personal statement explaining your interest, motivation, and career goals.
    1.5 Two Supporting Referees (one should be your manager)
    1.6 Performance Evaluation for the last 3 years
    1.7 Training Certificates (if any)
    1.8 Security Clearance Certificate (Valid and copy)
    1.9 Audit Clearance Certificate (Valid and copy)
    1.10 A copy of Bhutanese Citizenship Identity Card
    1.11 A copy of Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a competent RGoB medical doctor.
    1.12 Merit/Other certificates (if any)
    1.13 Copy of evidence of being involved in COVID-19 surveillance team
    Eligibility Criteria:
    a) Must be a Bhutanese Citizen
    b) Age < 45 years on the date of submission of application
    c) Other general eligibility criteria for civil servants and university faculties
    Non-eligibility: Those who meet any one of the following conditions are ineligible.
    a) Those who are planning to receive scholarships from another organization (including a government organization of the applicant’s country).
    b) Those who have completed a doctoral course and have no intention to obtain a degree.
    Allowances
    Monthly allowances shall be paid depending on the course enrolled as per the RGOB financial rules and regulations. If a grantee is absent from the university for more than a month, the scholarship shall be suspended for that period.

  4. Preference will be given to the applicants with the background in vaccine, research, bioinformatics, and other fields related to the project.
  5. First preference will be given to applicants who were involved in COVID-19 surveillance and second preference will be given to academicians.
  6. For PhD, preference will be given to a candidate with experience in research and publications.
  7. The shortlisted candidates and information on the selection interview will be announced later on the KGUMSB website.
  8. The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the KGUMSB for further selection and confirmation of the scholarship.
  9. Candidates shortlisted and selected by the KGUMSB may have to submit additional documents as per the requirements of specific University which will be directly communicated to the shortlisted candidates.
  10. The selected candidates should seek admissions in reputed Universities offering the courses.
  11. The selected candidates should inform KGUMSB about the University to pursue further studies within twelve months of scholarship being granted after which it will be considered cancelled.
