The Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) successfully organized the first International Conference on Cardiology from 27–28 December 2024 in collaboration with Bangla Interventional Therapeutics (BIT). The objective of the conference was to share the latest advances and innovations, enhance skills and expand knowledge in cardiovascular disease management, facilitate discussions among local and international cardiology experts, and foster networking and collaboration in cardiology.
About 200 participants, including 23 international attendees comprised of cardiologists, Cardiac surgeons, medical specialists, faculty members, nurses, medical students and relevant paramedical staff attended the conference.
Over one and a half days, the conference has featured a scientific sessions and case presentations on a wide range of cardiology topics, including advanced echocardiographic techniques and the management of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease and heart failure.
The President of KGUMSB, Dr KP Tshering and the Chairman of the BIT, Prof. Dr. Afzalur Rahman in their concluding remarks advised the participants to implement the new knowledge and skills and adopt new technologies to improve the care and interventions for the patients with cardiovascular diseases in Bhutan. Considering the importance of such conference for the health professionals, academicians and students, KGUMSB and BIT will jointly organize the similar conference next year in a bigger way.
The conference was financially and technically supported by Bangla Interventional Therapeutics (BIT) which is a global platform for interventional cardiologists based in Bangladesh. BIT has become a significant platform in South Asia, offering state-of-the-art management strategies and the latest advances and innovations in cardiovascular interventions.
