13th August 2025: Following the appointment ceremony, the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan convened an introductory meeting with the newly appointed President, Dr. Pem Namgyal in the afternoon. The meeting brought together officials from the Office of the President and the Deans of the Faculties. Adding significance to the occasion, the former President Dr. K P Tshering also joined the gathering to share his experiences and insights- offering valuable guidance on advancing the key mandates of the University.
During the meeting, the President reflected on his extensive professional journey, highlighting his work experience, contributions, and career achievements, first with the Ministry of Health erstwhile Department of Health, and later with the World Health Organization. The President also shared his role in shaping public health programs in the region and fostering international collaboration for better health & well being. The President outlined his vision for the future of the University, underscoring the importance of collaboration and teamwork in achieving its goals. He stressed that collective effort and shared responsibility would be key to driving progress in medical education, research, and service delivery. The President expressed his deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Bhutan and the University Governing Council for their trust and confidence in his leadership, pledging his full commitment to serve with dedication and integrity.
As a part of the introductory session to the President, the Registrar of the University presented an overview of the University’s mandates, key areas of work, progress, and major achievements—providing the President with a comprehensive picture of KGUMSB’s journey so far and its aspirations for the future in producing competent healthcare professionals to address the nation’s healthcare needs.
Registrar, on behalf of the University, expressed their commitment to supporting the President’s leadership and working collectively to advance KGUMSB’s mission of producing competent healthcare professionals, fostering research, and serving the nation’s healthcare needs.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the President’s inspiring words and reaffirming the University’s dedication to achieving its shared goals. This marked the first step in charting a shared vision and working together to advance the University’s mission.
