The Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases was inaugurated by Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO-SEARO, on December 17, 2023, along with Dasho Secretary, MoH, and President of KGUMSB. The Center was established in the KGUMSB as a part of a three-way partnership among the Ministry of Health, academia (KGUMSB), and district health authorities under the Service with Care and Compassion Initiatives, or “SCCI” Project, as one of the deliverables.
The SCCI Project was implemented in 19 districts, with the recent addition of five western districts. The center helps to liaise with relevant agencies in the execution of NCD activities at the various levels of health care facilities in the districts.
The Center was established with the primary objective of serving as a coordinating center for all the SCCI activities in NCDs in the country and thereby assisting the Ministry of Health and other stakeholder in supporting Ministry of health in fulfillment of mandates. This center will mainly achieve by creation of NCDs academia or expert pool, design thinking for NCD initiatives in the future, coordinate capacity building, help building platforms to capture data, monitor and evaluate, and assess the impact of public health interventions and reinforce NCD activities in order to achieve the Dhaka Call to Action to enroll 50000 hypertensive and diabetic patients in protocol-based management by 2025. Further, it will enhance research culture in NCD and generate evidences in NCDs which will further aid the Ministry of Health in evidence-based policy decision.
