Press Release : 5th South Asian Academy of Ophthalmology, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association (SAO-POSA) International Conference
The Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital, will host the 5th South Asian Academy of Ophthalmology, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association (SAO-POSA) International Conference from 18–19 September 2026. The event will be held at the Auditorium Hall, Faculty of Nursing and Public Health, KGUMSB.
SAO-POSA is a regional professional association of pediatric ophthalmologists and strabismologists from eight South Asian countries, namely India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, and Bhutan.
The two-day conference will feature keynote lectures, scientific presentations, symposia, instructional courses, wet labs, poster and free-paper presentations, and discussions on emerging technologies and current practices in eye care. The conference will also provide opportunities for professional networking, research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building among eye-care professionals in the region and beyond.
The theme of the conference is “Global Perspectives in Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology: Innovation, Precision & Vision for the Future.” The conference aims to strengthen regional and international collaboration, promote knowledge sharing, and advance the diagnosis and management of pediatric eye diseases and strabismus.
Since its establishment in 2019, SAO-POSA has served as a regional scientific forum bringing together ophthalmologists, pediatric eye specialists, strabismus experts, researchers, academicians, and trainees from South Asia and beyond. The association provides an important platform for sharing knowledge and advances in pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus management, clinical research, surgical innovations, and evidence-based eye care.
The 5th SAO-POSA International Conference reflects a shared commitment to advancing pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, improving the quality of patient care, and strengthening professional collaboration across South Asia and beyond.
