The 9th International Conference on Medical & Health Sciences commenced today at Zhichenkhar, Centre for Bhutan & GNH Studies, Thimphu. The inaugural session was graced by the Hon’ble Minister for Health, Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk.

In his address, the Hon’ble Minister extended warm greetings to experts, academicians, and members of the global health fraternity, noting that their presence reflects a shared aspiration to advance health, knowledge, and cross-border collaboration. His Excellency underscored that achieving Universal Health Coverage and ensuring that no one is left behind requires strong partnerships among government, academia, civil society, development partners, and communities.

While acknowledging Bhutan’s progress in key health indicators, the Hon’ble Minister also drew attention to emerging challenges, including an ageing population, the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and ongoing threats from emerging infections and antimicrobial resistance. Further, Hon’ble Minister emphasized that conferences of this nature are vital in fostering education, research, and innovation—critical drivers of a resilient health system.

Organized annually by the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan, the International Conference on Medical & Health Sciences serves as a platform for research dissemination, knowledge sharing, collaboration, and networking.

The three-day conference will conclude on 30th August 2025.
