JICA TCP Institutional Capacity Building for Eliminating Helicobacter Pylori Related Death

The University is conducting a collaborative project with Oita University titled “Institutional Capacity Building for Eliminating Helicobacter Pylori-related gastric cancer deaths” funded by SATREP and AMED Grant. These grants were secured by the Oita University and KGUMSB by submitting a joining proposal and through a competitive process.
The main objectives of the project are to:
  • develop in-house laboratory diagnostic capacity for Helicobacter Wloli (H. pylori) including detection of drug resistant organisms at RCDC 
  • train Bhutanese endoscopists on detection of early gastric cancer
  • study the drug resistant patterns of Hpylori
  • study the association between compliance to therapy through education and awareness of community and health assistants on treatment regime versus no education and awareness

The Technical Cooperation Project for Strengthening Medical Education in Bhutan

Launched in August 2020, the project has been established to build a self-sufficient, high-quality medical education system in Bhutan. Historically, Bhutan relied heavily on international institutions for medical training, this project seeks to institutionalize advanced medical education locally to ensure a sustainable supply of skilled healthcare professionals.
The project aims to achieve the following strategic outputs:
  • Research and educational capacities of teachers for medical education are strengthened
  • The supportive environment for medical education in Bhutan is enhanced
  • The governance of medical education in Bhutan is improved
