Governing Council

In accordance with the University of Medical Sciences Act of Bhutan 2012, the Governing Council is the supreme governing authority for the University that shall be accountable to the Government.

The Council is consist of thirteen members:

Three Government representatives appointed by the Government:

  • An eminent person as the Chairperson of the Council; and
  • Two members of high integrity with unblemished work experience in the public or private sector.

Seven University representatives:

  • President, ex-officio;
  • Head of one of the teaching hospitals, ex-officio;
  • The Registrar of the University as the member secretary;
  • Two Deans elected from amongst the Deans; and
  • Two students elected by the Students Affairs Committee.

Two representatives of the Professional Associations nominated by the heads of the respective associations.

One representative of the general public having high moral and social standing nominated by the Governing Council.
