The Centre for Simulation-Based Training (CSBT) is one of the premier centers of the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB). The Centre was inaugurated by Her Excellency Lyonpo Dasho Dechen Wangmo on 17 September 2022, coinciding with World Patient Safety Day. CSBT provides a modern, well-equipped environment dedicated to strengthening clinical competence and improving patient safety. The Centre conducts academic sessions, hands-on trainings, workshops, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes using task trainers, high-fidelity human patient simulators, and standardized patients.

Vision

To be a Centre of Excellence in Simulation-Based Training in the region in the fields of Medicine and Health.

Mission

The Centre for Simulation-Based Training shall:

  • Provide a state-of-the-art facility that enables learners to achieve high levels of clinical competence.
  • Promote innovative teaching and learning by integrating simulation-based education with traditional teaching methods.
  • Improve quality of care, patient safety, and clinical outcomes through advanced knowledge and skills acquired via high-quality simulation training.
  • Advance evidence-based practice to ensure high reliability and sustainability in healthcare delivery in Bhutan.
  • Institutionalize all life-saving skills training courses within the country.

Why Simulation-Based Learning in Medical Education?

Simulation-based learning enhances healthcare education by:

  • Replicating real-life patient scenarios in a safe environment
  • Eliminating risks to patients and learners
  • Allowing hands-on practice of invasive and complex procedures
  • Enabling repetition of procedures to build confidence and mastery
  • Providing standardized scenarios for multiple learners
  • Customizing learning experiences based on learners’ needs
  • Facilitating practice using real medical equipment
  • Facilitating practice using real medical equipment
  • Allowing exposure to rare and complex clinical situations
  • Offering immediate feedback and structured debriefing
  • Enhancing knowledge retention and procedural accuracy
  • Strengthening the transfer of classroom knowledge to real clinical settings
