{"id":241226,"date":"2025-12-05T20:12:51","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T14:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kgumsb.edu.bt\/?p=241226"},"modified":"2026-02-24T11:35:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T11:35:15","slug":"closing-ceremony-of-the-project-for-strengthening-quality-of-medical-education-in-bhutan-2020-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kgumsb.edu.bt\/index.php\/2025\/12\/05\/closing-ceremony-of-the-project-for-strengthening-quality-of-medical-education-in-bhutan-2020-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Closing Ceremony of the Project for Strengthening Quality of Medical Education in Bhutan (2020\u20132025)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; line-height: 18.4px; font-size: medium; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0); white-space: normal;\"><\/p>The Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB), in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), formally marked the closing of the Project for Strengthening Quality of Medical Education in Bhutan on 5th December 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, the Hon\u2019ble Health Minister and the Chairperson of the University Governing Council graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.&nbsp;&nbsp;The event was also attended by the&nbsp;&nbsp;Chief Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, officials from the constituent faculties of KGUMSB, the Ministry of Health, developmental partners,the former leaders of the University&nbsp;&nbsp;and representatives from various media houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme featured a welcome address by the President of KGUMSB, followed by a comprehensive presentation on the project\u2019s overall achievements by the Registrar. The Chief Representative of the JICA Bhutan Office further underscored the project\u2019s significant contributions in Bhutan healthworkforce development in his remarks. The Hon\u2019ble Health Minister then delivered a keynote address, highlighting the initiative\u2019s vital role in strengthening Bhutan\u2019s medical and health education systems and its long-term impact on the nation\u2019s healthcare landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Implemented from August 2020 to December 2025, the five-year technical cooperation project significantly contributed to advancing Bhutan\u2019s medical education system. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project successfully delivered all planned outputs\u2014strengthening faculty capacity, enhancing digital learning, expanding simulation-based training, supporting research, and strengthening health human resource development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major milestone was the development and groundwork for the nationwide rollout of Druk Sokchop Program- Bhutan\u2019s Life Saver\u2019s Course, a 12 standardized resuscitation and emergency courses, with over 500 certified trainers across the country.
